AC Milan crashes out of Champions League after 1-1 draw with Feyenoord

AC Milan’s Champions League campaign came to an end on Wednesday after a 1-1 draw with Feyenoord at the San Siro. Despite leveling the aggregate score after just one minute, Milan was unable to capitalize on their advantage and ultimately lost the tie 2-1.

The match got off to a lightning-quick start, with Malick Thiaw keeping the ball alive at the far post and heading it back across goal. Santiago Giménez, a former Feyenoord player, rose highest to head home the equalizer, canceling out Feyenoord’s 2-0 lead from the first leg.

Milan dominated the first half, with João Félix coming close to giving them the lead in the tie. However, Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther made an impressive save to deny Félix. The Dutch side regrouped at halftime and managed to contain Milan’s attacks in the second half.

Just when it seemed like Milan was gaining momentum, disaster struck. Theo Hernández was sent off for a second bookable offense, leaving Milan with 10 men on the field. The red card seemed to deflate Milan, and Feyenoord took advantage of the situation.

With just under 20 minutes remaining, Hugo Bueno delivered an inch-perfect cross onto the head of Julián Carranza, who powered home from six yards. The goal gave Feyenoord a 2-1 aggregate lead, and Milan was unable to respond.

Feyenoord’s young team showed remarkable courage and composure to hold on for the win. The Dutch side will now advance to the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time in 50 years.

The loss is a significant blow to AC Milan, who will now have to focus on their Serie A campaign to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Despite their disappointment, Milan can take pride in their performance, which showed glimpses of their former glory.

AC Milan will now focus on the Serie A where they currently sit seventh on the table with 41 points two places off the Champions League places.
