Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has backed Jose Mourinho to enjoy a successful spell at Real Madrid, praising the Portuguese coach and revealing that the pair remain in regular contact.
Ancelotti made the comments during a visit to Real Madrid’s training base to check on Brazil internationals ahead of the upcoming international break.
Ancelotti said he has maintained an excellent relationship with Mourinho for a long time, with the two experienced managers regularly exchanging ideas and messages.
The former Real Madrid boss also expressed his happiness at seeing Mourinho back at the Santiago Bernabéu and working with a club he knows well.
The Italian described Mourinho as a great coach and backed him to make a significant impact during his return to Real Madrid.
Ancelotti’s support comes as Mourinho begins another chapter at the Spanish giants, having taken over the club’s first team for the 2026-27 campaign.
Ancelotti has also been encouraged by Real Madrid’s early progress under Mourinho.
He acknowledged that the team experienced difficulties in their opening match but said their performances improved in the following game, particularly during their victory over Real Sociedad.
The Brazil coach believes the pressure will now increase as Real Madrid enter a more demanding period of the season.
With a La Liga meeting against Real Betis and the start of their Champions League campaign approaching, Ancelotti identified the upcoming fixtures as important tests for Mourinho’s new-look side.
Ancelotti’s visit also underlined the close relationship between the two coaches.
Mourinho welcomed him at Real Madrid’s training ground and accompanied him onto the pitch to greet the players, while their established friendship is expected to help communication between Real Madrid and the Brazil national team over players such as Endrick, Rodrygo and Eder Militão.
