Ancelotti debunks Toni Kroos’ retirement rumours

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has stated that German midfielder Toni Kroos will sign a new contract extension at the club, pouring cold waters on reports that came that the midfielder would retire at the end of the season.

According to the Italian manager, retirement is not in view for the midfielder, who is aged 32 and has also stated that he’s very clear on continuing his playing career and wants to retire at Real Madrid.

Toni Kroos joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014 and has 4 UEFA Champions League titles with the club, including 4 La Liga titles.

Speaking to newsmen, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti revealed that the player would continue and sign a contract soon.

“He’s quite sure about it and will be very clear in the next month. It’s impossible as a football fan to imagine that he’s going to retire. He has said that he wants to end his career at Real Madrid, and so I think he’ll carry on.” Ancelotti said.

Toni Kroos won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and is also a Bundesliga champion with Bayern Munich. This season he has featured 18 times in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League for the Los Blancos.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid is currently second in the La Liga table behind Barcelona only on goal difference. The capital club side defeated Real Valladolid 2-0 courtesy of a brace from Karim Benzema in their first game since the World Cup break.

On the other hand, Barcelona was held to a 0-0 draw by Espanyol, leaving both sides level on points, with Barcelona leading their rivals on goal difference.

The attention will now shift to the Copa Del Rey Tuesday as Real Madrid will face lower league side Cacereno before a clash against Villarreal in La Liga at the weekend.
