Valverde’s tireless display earned praise from Ancelotti, who struggled to find words to describe the midfielder’s contribution.
“I have no words left for him, he is very happy and has contributed a lot to the team. I really have no more words. Today, the team worked, ran, and made a difference. Rodrygo and Brahim were the best. We didn’t press much, but that wasn’t the idea. Atlético had control at times, but they didn’t create many opportunities for them.” Ancelotti said.
The Italian coach also heaped praise on goalscorers Rodrygo and Brahim Diaz, who sealed an important first-leg win for the reigning European champions. Julian Alvarez had equalized for Diego Simeone’s side after Rodrygo’s early strike, but Diaz’s 55th-minute goal proved decisive.
Ancelotti acknowledged that Atletico had control at times, but his team’s defense held firm to limit their opponents’ scoring opportunities. “Today, the team worked, ran, and made a difference. Rodrygo and Brahim were the best. We didn’t press much, but that wasn’t the idea,” Ancelotti explained.
