Arsenal Football Club has signed Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford in a £15 million deal. 

The 31-year-old joins the club on a two-year contract with an option for a third year, following a successful six-year stint at Brentford where he made 196 appearances and scored 13 goals.

Norgaard expressed his excitement about joining Arsenal, saying he got “almost emotional” knowing he’ll get to play in the Champions League. 

Norgaard has won 35 caps for Denmark and brings significant experience to the Arsenal midfield.

The midfielder’s transfer marks the third signing for Arsenal this summer, following Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad in a £60 million deal and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea for £5 million. 

Arsenal is also reportedly closing in on a £70 million deal for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres and has made a formal approach for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke.

Mikel Arteta praised Norgaard’s leadership skills and strong character, saying: “He is a strong midfielder with excellent tactical awareness and versatility. He also has physical presence and intelligence, which will give us added depth and balance.” 

Norgaard’s ability to break up play, intercept, tackle, and win aerial duels will be valuable assets for Arsenal. Norgaard’s statistics in the Premier League since 2021 are impressive, with 201 interceptions – the most of any Premier League player during this period – and 844 recoveries, ranking second. 

He also ranks third for tackles won with 189. In the 2024-25 season, Norgaard scored six goals in all competitions, his highest tally in a single season.

With Norgaard’s signing, Arsenal is strengthening its midfield ahead of the new season. His experience and leadership skills will be invaluable to the team as they compete in the Premier League and Champions League.

Norgaard is Arsenal’s third completed transfer of the summer transfer window after the signing of Spaniards Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi.
