Premier League leaders Arsenal were held to a goalless draw on Tuesday at the Emirates Stadium by Newcastle United in the Premier League.
The Gunners currently lead the Premier League table with seven points after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton at the weekend.
Newcastle United have also been getting closer to the table-toppers, but the weekend’s goalless draw at home to Leeds United dragged them back.
Therefore Tuesday’s game was a chance for Newcastle to aim to reduce the deficit between themselves and the Gunners.
It was an end-to-end encounter between both sides as The Gunners looked the most likely s to score in the first half, Newcastle also had their chances, but none was able to trouble Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Speaking at the end of the game, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe appreciated and praised the defensive performance of both sides.
“I think it was a very, very good defensive display and great mentality from the group. You saw good teamwork and collective effort. I think Arsenal are very good and poses different problems, so we knew defensively we needed to be rock solid.” Eddie Howe said.
Meanwell Arsenal’s next game is an FA Cup tie against Oxford United and two big ties against Tottenham Hotspur in North London in the Premier League, and a clash with Manchester United to wrap up January.
Newcastle United, on the other, will Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup at the weekend, followed by an EFL Cup tie against Leicester City and a Premier League game against Fulham to end January.
Elsewhere, Brighton thrashed Everton 4-1 at Goodison Park, while Fulham got a 1-0 victory against Leicester City.
Meanwhile, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford were on target as Manchester United got a 3-0 victory against Bournemouth.
On Wednesday, Southampton will play Nottingham Forest, Leeds United will face West Ham, Aston Villa, and wolves, and the final game of the day will be between Crystal Palace and Tottenham.
