Arsenal Pursuing Ivan Toney for January Transfer Window

In a bid to strengthen their squad and boost their title aspirations, Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, is intensifying the pursuit of Brentford striker Ivan Toney ahead of the upcoming January transfer window. The Gunners have set their sights on the 27-year-old forward, who is set to return to action after serving a four-month suspension for violating strict FA betting regulations.

Toney’s return to training has fueled Arsenal’s interest in acquiring his services. However, the Bees have made it clear that they won’t part ways with their star striker easily, setting a hefty price tag of at least £60 million for his transfer.

“Brentford have got a price in their minds and will not sell unless any club meets their demands,” Mirror Sport reported.

Arteta’s desire to secure Toney’s signature is fueled by his pursuit of a proven goal-scorer who can add a physical presence to Arsenal’s attacking lineup. Toney certainly fits the bill, having netted an impressive 20 goals in the top flight last season.

Arsenal’s long-term admiration for Toney was evident, and they might have made a move for him in the previous summer if not for his suspension. While the Gunners do have striking options in Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus, they recognize the need for a prolific scorer to challenge Manchester City in the title race.

The future of Eddie Nketiah remains uncertain, with questions arising about whether he might be part of a potential deal for Toney. Nevertheless, Nketiah has expressed his determination to fight for his place, and his strong performances this season earned him an England call-up.

Arteta has shown his willingness to make tough decisions, exemplified by the replacement of popular goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with David Raya, who is currently on loan from Brentford. This loan deal is expected to become permanent next summer.

Toney’s desire to move to a larger club is well-known, and with only 18 months remaining on his contract, Brentford faces a challenging decision. Despite Thomas Frank’s support and an offer of a new contract when Toney was hit with the ban in May, the England international has made it clear that he is not inclined to extend his stay with the Bees.

As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes are on whether Arsenal can meet Brentford’s valuation and secure the signature of Ivan Toney, a move that could significantly bolster their title ambitions.
