Arsenal have confirmed that teenage prospect Max Dowman has been removed from their Champions League squad until February 2026, with the club opting to reinstate Gabriel Jesus following the Brazilian’s recovery from injury.
The decision means Dowman will not be eligible to feature again in Europe this season until the next registration window.
Dowman made headlines earlier in the campaign after becoming the youngest player in Champions League history when he appeared against Slavia Prague at the age of 15 years and 308 days.
The midfielder played a role in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory and earned praise from manager Mikel Arteta, who highlighted the youngster’s confidence and composure on the biggest stage.
However, Arsenal have now confirmed that Jesus has replaced Dowman on their UEFA A list with immediate effect, making the striker available for Wednesday’s match against Club Brugge.
Dowman, who recently picked up an ankle injury while playing for the club’s under-21 side, will be added to the UEFA B list in January but is ineligible to play in European competitions for the next 60 days.
The setback is a frustrating one for Dowman, who has enjoyed a rapid rise this season.
Despite his age, he has already made five first-team appearances in all competitions and has drawn comparisons to Barcelona star Lamine Yamal from within the Arsenal dressing room.
Jesus’ return provides a timely boost for Arteta, with the forward back in contention after a lengthy absence caused by a knee injury.
The Brazil international recently featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Arsenal’s under-21s and has spoken of his determination to manage his comeback carefully after the most serious injury of his career.
Arsenal travel to Belgium to face Club Brugge on Wednesday, looking to maintain their perfect Champions League record, having won all five of their group matches so far.
