Aubameyang hits brace in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Celta Vigo

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was on target twice as Barcelona got a 3-1 win over Celta Vigo at Camp Nou on Tuesday evening to continue their encouraging end to what has been a turbulent season.

Barcelona started the 2021/2022 season in an abysmal fashion under Ronald Koeman as the Blaugrana flirted with the second half of the La Liga table for a long period of the season.

The team was also knocked out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stage from a pool that had Bayern Munich, Benfica, and Dynamo Kiev.

However, a change in the managerial positions saw former midfielder and Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez return to the club in a coaching capacity.

Since then, it has been an upward turn even though the club will finish the season trophyless. Nevertheless, Barcelona have now secured qualification back to the UEFA Champions League after their last few results.

Barcelona beat Mallorca and Real Betis 2-1 in their last two matches, and on Tuesday, they continued the winning run after taking the lead through Memphis Depay at the half-hour mark.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the second before the end of the first-half. The former Arsenal forward also added another three minutes after the break while Iago Aspas pulled one back for the visitors.

They were reduced to ten men when Jeison Murillo was sent off before the hour mark.

There were worrying scenes in the second half as Ronald Araujo suffered a concussion after colliding with Gavi. The Uruguayan defender has to the stretchered off in an ambulance to the hospital.

Barcelona will now face Getafe on Sunday and Villarreal on the final day of the La Liga season. Barcelona are in second place with 72 points from 36 games this season as the trail champions Real Madrid Sevilla in third with 65 points while Atletico Madrid ironfoot with 64 points.

However, Atletico Madrid’s UEFA Champions League place have not been sealed with Real Betis’s 3-0 win over Valencia on Tuesday.

It means that they are just three points behind Atletico Madrid in fourth but having played a game more. Atletico Madrid will face Elche on Wednesday evening.
