Barcelona Intensifies Bid for Joao Cancelo’s Permanent Transfer

Barcelona’s determination to secure Joao Cancelo on a permanent basis from Manchester City has intensified, signaling the Spanish giants’ unwavering pursuit of the Portuguese full-back for the upcoming seasons.

Having clinched a successful loan deal for Cancelo from Manchester City, Barcelona’s triumph over Bayern Munich in acquiring his services highlights their eagerness to solidify their squad. Under the guidance of manager Xavi, Cancelo swiftly emerged as a crucial player within the team’s framework.

According to Football Espana, Barcelona is actively formulating a proposal for City, seeking to navigate the complexities of a deal amounting to approximately £44 million for Cancelo’s services. The proposed arrangement entails an initial payment of £22 million, with the remaining balance structured across a span of three years.

In recent discussions, Diario Sport disclosed Barcelona’s contemplation of securing another loan deal for Cancelo in the upcoming season. However, negotiations with Manchester City indicate their preference for such an arrangement only if it incorporates an obligatory £30 million purchase clause. This difference in perspectives poses a potential stumbling block in the ongoing talks concerning Cancelo’s future at Barcelona.

Despite his impactful performances in La Liga, where Cancelo scored twice and contributed an assist in ten games, his endeavours in the Champions League have yet to yield results, with no goals registered despite starting in four fixtures.

Considering Manchester City’s depth in full-back positions, it is anticipated that Cancelo will explore alternative club options next summer, even if Barcelona and City fail to reach a definitive agreement on his transfer. This potential move signifies the player’s quest for new avenues, aligning with the shifting dynamics within the football landscape.
