Barcelona Overcome Osasuna in Hard-Fought 2-1 Victory: Lewandowski’s Late Penalty Seals the Win

Barcelona continued their unbeaten streak in La Liga, clinching a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Osasuna at El Sadar on Sunday night. While the Blaugrana didn’t display their best form, they managed to secure three crucial points, thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s late penalty.

The first half saw an early flurry of chances for Barcelona, with Frenkie De Jong, Ilkay Gündogan, and Robert Lewandowski missing a triple opportunity within a minute. However, Barcelona’s momentum waned, leading to slow and uninspired midfield passing, allowing Osasuna to organise their defence effectively.

Lamine Yamal provided sparks of life in Barcelona’s attack, but opportunities to exploit his skills were limited, as his teammates struggled to create meaningful chances in the final third. In contrast, Osasuna showcased quick passing and intelligent off-the-ball movement, causing trouble for the visitors. Goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen made crucial saves, denying José Arnaiz and Aimar Oroz.

The first half seemed destined for a goalless draw until Jules Kounde’s towering header from an Ilkay Gündogan corner broke the deadlock just before halftime.

Barcelona entered the second half with a slim lead, but Osasuna had a plan to press for an equalizer. The hosts defended in a low block, allowing Barcelona to maintain their slow possession game. As Osasuna pressed higher after the 60th minute, Barcelona’s midfield passing became increasingly erratic.

Substitutes Ferran Torres and João Cancelo aimed to inject dynamism into Barcelona’s attack. Still, the Blaugrana struggled to control possession and gave the ball away too often. A goal by Cancelo was disallowed due to offside.

With Osasuna pressing, the hosts found their equalizer when Chimy Ávila unleashed a stunning strike from outside the box, finding the net off the post.

As the game entered its final 15 minutes, Barcelona sought to regain control. Alejandro Catena’s foul on Lewandowski inside the box resulted in a red card and a penalty kick, which Lewandowski calmly converted.

In the dying moments, Osasuna pressed for another equaliser, but Barcelona’s defence held firm, securing the victory.

Despite being outplayed, Barcelona managed to claim a vital win, taking their points tally to 10 from 12 in a challenging start to the season. While there’s room for improvement, the team’s potential is evident, offering hope for the future under Xavi Hernández’s leadership.
