Gabriel Jesus vows to fight for more playing time at Barcelona

Gabriel Jesus has admitted he faces a difficult battle for regular playing time at Barcelona, with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal currently leading the club’s attacking charge. 

The Brazilian striker says he respects Raphinha’s form but is determined to compete for more opportunities under manager Hansi Flick.

Raphinha has reportedly established himself as an undisputed starter in Flick’s attack, while Yamal, Fermin Lopez and Adame have also contributed goals. 

The competition has limited Jesus to just two appearances since joining Barcelona, featuring for seven minutes against Feyenoord and two minutes against Valencia.

Despite his limited minutes, Jesus has already opened his Barcelona account, scoring the club’s fifth goal in their Champions League campaign. 

His current record stands at one goal from his two appearances as he continues to adapt to life at the Catalan club.

Jesus acknowledged Raphinha’s impressive form and said he understands why the Brazilian winger has been playing regularly. 

He added that his aim is to remain patient, compete for his place and take advantage of any opportunity to earn more minutes.

The former Arsenal and Manchester City forward also revealed that he wants his goals to have greater significance for Barcelona. 

Rather than scoring when the team is already comfortably ahead, Jesus said he wants to contribute decisive goals that can directly influence important matches.

Jesus is contracted to Barcelona until June 2029 and will hope to establish a more prominent role as the season progresses. 

With the club competing in La Liga and the Champions League, the Brazilian will have opportunities to prove he can make a bigger impact in Flick’s attack.

Jesus’ patience will be tested as Barcelona’s attacking options continue to flourish. Raphinha has been among the club’s most productive players, while Yamal’s consistent performances have further reduced the available opportunities for the Brazilian striker.

However, with a long-term contract and competition across multiple competitions, Jesus still has time to establish himself at Barcelona. 

He will now look to make the most of every appearance and convince Flick that he deserves a more regular role in the team.
