Barcelona have entered talks with Newcastle United over a potential summer move for winger Anthony Gordon, as the Catalan giants step up their search for attacking reinforcements ahead of next season.
Bayern Munich are also interested in the England international, setting up a possible transfer battle between two European heavyweights.
Despite ongoing financial restrictions, Barcelona are believed to have room to spend money generated through player sales.
The Spanish champions view Gordon as one of several attacking targets being considered by manager Hansi Flick, alongside Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez and Chelsea striker Joao Pedro.
The club also retain the option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently following his loan spell from Manchester United.
Newcastle are understood to value Gordon at a minimum of £70 million, with the winger still under contract until 2030.
Bayern Munich have already held formal discussions with the Premier League side, although reports suggest there remains a significant gap between the two clubs in terms of valuation.
Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson previously stated the club would only sanction departures on their own terms.
Gordon enjoyed an impressive campaign despite Newcastle’s disappointing 12th-place finish in the Premier League, scoring 17 goals across all competitions.
However, speculation surrounding his future intensified after he was left on the bench for the club’s final four league matches.
During Newcastle’s last game of the season against Fulham, supporters briefly sang his name in what many interpreted as a possible farewell gesture.
Head coach Eddie Howe admitted after the defeat at Fulham that he could not guarantee Gordon would remain at St James’ Park next season.
Howe praised the player’s professionalism throughout the campaign but acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the transfer window as the winger prepares to join England’s World Cup squad this summer.
Newcastle’s willingness to consider offers for Gordon reflects a noticeable change in strategy following last year’s high-profile sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool.
With chief executive Hopkinson and sporting director Ross Wilson now firmly in place, the club are expected to focus on maximizing transfer revenue to rebuild the squad.
