Barcelona youngster returns to Spanish national team

Spain’s head coach Luis Enrique has handed a call up to Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati ahead of the Nations League, where Spain will face Portugal on the second of June.

The La Roja will also play the Czech Republic and Switzerland in June, but it will be the first time in close to 2 years that the forward will be linking up with the national team.

After recovering from injury problems that sidelined him for national team duties and club football, Fati was included in the list released by Enrique on Monday.

Fati has been battling injury woes, including a knee injury that sidelined him for nearly a year. Nevertheless, he is Spain’s youngest scorer after making his National team debut at 17 in 2020 and scoring against Ukraine.

The 19 Year-old missed Euro 2020 and only returned in September 2021 from a knee injury. He also missed the first three months of 2022 after getting injured in January before making a return on the first of May.

Their first Nations League fixture will be on the second of June against the 2018 winners, followed by the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

Spain lost the last Nations League final to France last October, and they will hope to make the next final set for June 2023.
