Barcelona’s Dani Olmo out for one month with a hamstring injury

Barcelona confirmed on Monday that new signing and EUROS 2024 winner, Dani Olmo will be on the sidelines for four weeks with a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old midfielder was removed in the second half of Barca’s 4-1 revenge win at Girona on Sunday, with tests conducted at the club’s training ground on Monday revealing that he is set to be out for at least one month.

Olmo will miss the club’s Champions League trip to AS Monaco, and league matches against Villarreal, Getafe, Osasuna, and Alavés. He will also miss the European match against Young Boys before next month’s international break.

The club will hope to have him available for an intense run of fixtures after the international break, which begins with a date with Sevilla on October 20. Thereafter, Hansi Flick’s side will lock horns with Bayern Munich, an El-Clasico before the Derbi Barceloni against Espanyol.

The former RB Leipzig midfielder joins a long injury list that includes Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong, and Fermín López.

Olmo’s injury comes after an incredible start to life under Hansi Flick in which he has scored thrice in as many matches, and against Girona on Sunday as the La Liga leagues recorded their best goal-scoring start to a campaign since 2017.

The last time Barca had notched many goals just four matches into the season was during the 2017-18 when Lionel Messi was still at the club.

Meanwhile, a number of their players have scored their goals so far. Poland international Robert Lewandowski is the league’s highest scorer with four goals; he’s followed by Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo, who both have three.

In addition, Lamine Yamal has also registered four assists in five games and leads the league in goal contributions with a total of seven, one more than teammate Lewandowski.
