Bayern complete Jonathan Tah signing, says he is excited to kickstart new era

Germany defender Jonathan Tah has completed a free transfer to Bayern Munich after leaving Bayer Leverkusen, marking a significant move for the Bundesliga champions. The 28-year-old, known for his defensive solidity, joins Bayern as they aim to bolster their backline with experienced talent.

Tah has signed a four-year contract with Bayern Munich, bringing an end to his nine-year tenure at Leverkusen, where he made 402 appearances. During his time at Leverkusen, he played a key role in their 2023-24 Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal triumphs, though they finished second behind Bayern this season.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Tah stated he was thrilled to join FC Bayern and eager to take on responsibility. He emphasized his commitment to working hard daily to ensure the team’s success and to win numerous trophies together, signaling his ambition to contribute significantly.

Tah’s career began at Hamburg, but he rose to prominence after joining Leverkusen in 2015. That same year, he earned his first cap for Germany, going on to amass 35 international appearances. His experience at both club and international levels makes him a valuable addition to Bayern’s squad.

Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, highlighted Tah’s quality and international pedigree, noting that he would quickly establish himself in the team’s defense. Freund’s confidence reflects Tah’s proven track record and adaptability, which are expected to strengthen Bayern’s backline.

Tah’s passing accuracy further underscores his reliability, with 2,295 passes completed at a 93% rate this season, ranking fifth in the Bundesliga. Remarkably, this is the fourth consecutive season Tah has avoided errors leading to goals, a feat unmatched by many.

His precision and consistency, including a league-leading 95% pass completion rate in 2023-24, solidify his reputation as a top-tier defender.
