Sam Beukema could become a Napoli player soon after reports emerged that Napoli and Bologna are exchanging documents to complete his transfer to the Stadio Maradona.
The Dutch centre-back is set to join Napoli in a deal worth €31m.
According to Sky Sport Italia and Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs are now exchanging documents to finalise the defender’s transfer.
Football Italia had reported this week that both clubs had reached a principle of agreement over a deal exceeding €30m.
This follows a report that Beukema, who has always been the Partenopei’s primary target to strengthen their defence, had agreed to personal terms with Napoli weeks ago before the deal got to this stage.
Should he complete the move, Beukema will be the second defensive reinforcement for Napoli this summer. The Partenopei had earlier in the window signed promising centre-back Luca Marianucci from Empoli.
He will also become the third signing of the club, following the signing of former Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis has recently promised “more new signings” at the Stadio Maradona, and that seemed to. It is the case with the latest development as they prepare for the defence of their Scudetto.
The 26-year-old defender only spent two seasons with Bologna, having joined them Bologna for just €8m from AZ Alkmaar.
He has made 65 Serie A appearances with the Rossoblu and won the Coppa Italia last season.
Napoli have also been linked to Trevor Chalobah and even Giorgio Scalvini, but it seems they have been working solely on the Bologna defender.
It is also gathered that Napoli are planning to announce the double signing of Beukema and Noa Lang, and Beukema as the duo could undergo their medicals today, by which time the documentation would have been completed.
Antonio Conte had reportedly given Napoli management conditions for quality signings that will help them compete for major titles next season, and they seem to be heading towards that direction.
