Brentford stun Manchester City with dramatic comeback

Brentford pulled off a stunning comeback to earn a 2-2 draw against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. The Bees trailed 2-0 with just 10 minutes remaining, but goals from Yoane Wissa and Christian Nørgaard in the final stages of the match secured a remarkable point for Thomas Frank’s side.

Manchester City had taken a two-goal lead through Phil Foden’s brace, with the English midfielder scoring either side of the 66th minute. Foden’s first goal was a beautifully crafted effort, with Kevin De Bruyne providing the assist with a sublime cross. The Belgian’s pinpoint delivery allowed Foden to guide the ball into the corner, giving City a deserved lead.

However, Brentford refused to give up, and Wissa’s goal in the 82nd minute sparked a dramatic turnaround. The Bees pushed forward in search of an equalizer, and their pressure paid off in stoppage time when Nørgaard headed home the leveller. The Danish midfielder was left unmarked in the box, and he made no mistake in converting Mads Roerslev’s cross.

The draw extends Manchester City’s poor away form, with the Cityzens having secured just one win in their last 10 matches on the road across all competitions. Meanwhile, Brentford’s point maintains their impressive home record, with the Bees boasting the second-best record in the Premier League this season.

The result will come as a major disappointment to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who had been hoping to build on his side’s thumping 8-0 win over Salford City in the FA Cup. Instead, City’s defensive frailties were exposed once again, and they will need to regroup quickly to get their title challenge back on track.

In other results, Chelsea came from behind to draw Bournemouth in a 2-2 draw; West Ham United defeated Fulham 3-2 while Liverpool secured a point away at Nottingham Forest in a 1-1 draw.

On Wednesday, the North London derby comes to the fore between Arsenal and Tottenham at Emirates, Newcastle hosts Wolves, Leicester play Crystal Palace, while Everton play Aston Villa.
