Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has come to the defense of Kylian Mbappe after the French forward missed a crucial penalty in the team’s 2-1 defeat to Athletic Club on Wednesday. Mbappe’s penalty was saved by Athletic Club goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala in the 68th minute, marking his second missed penalty in as many attempts in the span of one week.
Ancelotti refused to point the finger at Mbappe, instead calling for patience and understanding. “He missed the penalty, but I can’t be assessing the game on the basis of one penalty because you might score, or not,” Ancelotti told reporters after the game. The Italian manager also highlighted Mbappe’s contributions to the team, noting that he has scored 10 goals this season.
Mbappe’s recent performances have been under scrutiny, and his missed penalties have been a major talking point. However, Ancelotti believes that the French forward is still adapting to his new team and needs time to find his best form. “He’s not at his best level, but you have to give him time to adapt,” Ancelotti said.
Real Madrid’s defeat to Athletic Club marks their fifth loss in the last 11 games, and the team is under increasing pressure to turn their season around. Ancelotti’s job security has been questioned in recent weeks, but the Italian manager remains committed to his team and is confident that they can bounce back from their current slump.
Real Madrid’s next fixture is a tricky game away at Girona on Saturday, December 7. The team will then travel to Italy to face Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday, December 10. Ancelotti will be hoping that his team can use these games as an opportunity to regain their momentum and get their season back on track.
Despite their recent struggles, Real Madrid remains one of the most talented and experienced teams in the world. With Ancelotti’s guidance and Mbappe’s potential, the team is capable of turning their season around and making a strong push for the La Liga title.
