Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has praised Cesc Fabregas for his impressive transition from professional football to management ahead of their meeting with Como.
Carrick praised the Spaniard’s achievements and the progress he has made with the Italian club.
Fabregas joined Como as a player in 2022 when the club was competing in Serie B. After retiring the following season, he took charge as head coach and has overseen the team’s steady rise in Italian football.
Under Fabregas, Como finished fourth in the Italian top flight last season and secured their first experience of European football.
Carrick said the former Chelsea midfielder had developed a team with clear tactical ideas and an impressive style of play.
The United manager also acknowledged the quality of Como’s players, particularly attacking midfielder Nico Paz, who has enjoyed a strong start to the season.
He warned that Como could exploit spaces and trouble United if his players failed to stay focused.
Carrick confirmed that Manchester United would be missing several players due to injuries and illness.
Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were among those unavailable, while Marcus Rashford was still dealing with a hip problem.
However, Matthijs de Ligt has returned to fitness after an extended spell on the sidelines, while young defender Harry Amass is in contention for a starting role at left-back.
Carrick said the squad would need to maintain the intensity and determination displayed in their previous match.
Despite United’s difficult start to the season, Carrick expressed confidence in his players and praised the unity within the team.
He also insisted that he maintained a strong relationship with the club’s hierarchy, adding that the team remained focused on improving performances and returning to winning ways.
Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League campaign began with a 4-0 win over Sabah Baku before losing 2-0 to Atlético Madrid on match day two.
