Celtic will look to secure a fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership win as they host in-form Dundee United at Parkhead on Wednesday night (7:45 pm kick-off).
Martin O’Neill’s side bounced back impressively from their midweek Europa League defeat to Celta Vigo, beating Hibernian 2-1 in Edinburgh on Saturday to move four points clear at the top of the table.
It was far from a perfect start at Easter Road, as Owen Elding gave Hibs the lead after just two minutes.
However, the Hoops showed character to respond before the interval, leveling through a Jason Kerr own goal before Camilo Duran struck to complete the turnaround and secure all three points.
Wednesday’s visitors will provide a much tougher challenge, though. Dundee United arrive in Glasgow’s east end in excellent form, unbeaten in their last five league matches.
Jim Goodwin’s men came from behind to beat Aberdeen 3-2 at Tannadice at the weekend, a result that lifted them above rivals Dundee into fourth place following Dundee’s defeat at St Mirren.
The Tangerines have shown resilience and attacking threat in their recent run, and will fancy their chances of upsetting the league leaders.
Celtic, meanwhile, have been handed a fresh injury setback. Alistair Johnston made his long-awaited return against Hibs, his first appearance since August after suffering three hamstring injuries in the past year.
However, the Canadian international’s comeback was short-lived, as he pulled up with another hamstring problem late in the game and is now set for a scan later this week. He will definitely miss Wednesday’s clash.
Yang Hyun-jun also remains a doubt for the hosts. The South Korean winger has been sidelined with a hamstring injury picked up on international duty earlier this month. While he hopes to return soon, Wednesday will likely come too early for him.
Despite the absences, O’Neill will be confident his side can continue their momentum and extend their lead at the summit.
