Celtic are gearing up to sign Lorient’s prolific striker Sambou Soumano as Brendan Rodgers aims to strengthen his attacking options before the transfer window closes next Monday.
The 24-year-old Senegalese forward had an impressive season, scoring 14 goals in just 11 starts to help Lorient secure promotion to Ligue 1.
His form has carried into the new campaign, with a goal in a 4-0 rout of Rennes, putting him in contention for a senior Senegal call-up.
With Celtic nearing deals for winger Michel-ange Balikwisha and left-back Marcelo Saracchi, Rodgers is now focused on adding a dynamic striker. Soumano fits the bill perfectly, offering pace, sharp movement, and a keen eye for goal, qualities Rodgers has prioritized.
The club is expected to make an official approach soon, with negotiations likely to intensify based on Celtic’s European commitments this week.
The urgency for a new striker stems from the team’s current attacking struggles. Adam Idah has failed to make a consistent impact since his return, while Johnny Kenny’s future is uncertain amid interest from Bolton.
Shin Yamada has yet to win over Rodgers, and young Callum Osmand isn’t ready for first-team action. Soumano’s arrival could provide the cutting edge Celtic’s forward line desperately needs to compete in both domestic and European competitions.
With only a week left in the transfer window, Celtic are moving swiftly to secure their targets. Soumano’s proven goal-scoring ability and versatility make him a prime candidate to bolster the squad.
As Rodgers looks to build a team capable of challenging on all fronts, the Lorient striker has emerged as a key target to watch in the final days of the transfer market.
