Chelsea beats Leeds United to set up FA Cup final clash with Man City

Chelsea FC booked their place in the FA Cup final for the first time since 2022 with a narrow 1-0 victory over Leeds United at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

A first-half header from Enzo Fernández proved decisive in a tense semi-final that lacked attacking quality but delivered plenty of late drama.

Chelsea struck the winning goal in the 23rd minute when Pedro Neto whipped in a dangerous cross that Fernández met with a firm header beyond the Leeds goalkeeper.

The goal settled a cagey opening period and gave the Blues control against a Leeds side that struggled to create clear-cut opportunities in the first half.

The victory came during a turbulent week for Chelsea following the dismissal of head coach Liam Rosenior on Wednesday.

Interim boss McFarlane oversaw the Wembley triumph as Chelsea produced a disciplined defensive display to protect their slender advantage and move within one win of lifting the trophy.

Leeds improved after the break and enjoyed long spells of possession as they searched for an equaliser.

However, chances remained limited, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin unable to connect with a late free-kick into the box.

Chelsea also frustrated their opponents with effective game management in the closing stages, while several late fouls and yellow cards disrupted the flow of the match.

The semi-final attracted a crowd of 82,542 at Wembley, with Leeds supporters providing a loud atmosphere throughout despite the defeat.

Tensions rose in stoppage time when both Neto and Jayden Bogle were booked following an off-the-ball clash, while Leeds substitute Lukas Nmecha was cautioned for a heavy challenge on Moisés Caicedo.

Chelsea will now face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on 16 May after Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Southampton in the other semi-final.

The Blues will hope the Wembley victory can provide momentum after a difficult run of form, while Leeds must quickly regroup after falling just short of a place in the showpiece event.
