Kevin De Bruyne played a pivotal role in Belgium’s comprehensive 3-0 Nations League triumph over Turkiye on Friday evening at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.
The experienced midfielder delivered a masterclass performance, netting two spectacular goals that underlined his enduring quality and importance to the national side.
Belgium took control of the contest and never looked back after De Bruyne’s early brilliance. His first goal was a moment of pure skill as he nutmegged defender Abdulkerim Bardakci before driving a precise shot into the bottom-right corner.
Moments later he produced an even more impressive strike, curling a beautiful effort from distance into the top-left corner that left the goalkeeper with no chance. Romelu Lukaku completed the scoring with Belgium’s third goal to seal a convincing win.
Beyond his goals, De Bruyne’s overall contribution was outstanding. The Napoli midfielder created three chances for his teammates, a figure bettered only by Mika Godts, who managed four.
He also won five of his ten duels and remained influential until being substituted in the 82nd minute.
Across the current international break, the 35-year-old has now been directly involved in three goals, registering two strikes and one assist in as many Nations League matches.
After the match, De Bruyne reflected on his role within the squad. He said he tried to lead by example for the younger players, and they followed easily.
He added that he felt he could still contribute, that he was enjoying himself, and that this remained his main focus.
Statistically, Belgium edged the expected goals battle by 1.58 to 1.38. Turkiye created chances, most notably when Merih Demiral missed a clear chance just before half-time.
At the other end, Dodi Lukebakio struck the woodwork twice, while Hans Vanaken saw a clever flick superbly saved by goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.
Belgium now turn their attention to their final fixture of the international window, an away clash against France on Monday.
A win would lift Mark van Bommel’s side to the top of Group A1 in the Nations League and further strengthen their campaign.
