Dortmund land Fabio Silva in €26.5m transfer coup from Wolves

Borussia Dortmund have secured a deal to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Fabio Silva for up to €26.5 million, per recent reports.

The 23-year-old Portuguese striker bid an emotional farewell to his teammates and staff after Wolves’ League Cup triumph over West Ham United on Tuesday, a match in which he did not feature.

Silva is now expected to travel to Germany for a medical, with the transfer awaiting final approval from Dortmund’s board.

The move marks a new chapter for the young forward, who joined Wolves from Porto in 2020 for a club-record €40 million.

Despite high expectations, Silva struggled to find consistency in the Premier League, managing just five goals across 72 appearances.

However, his loan spells in the Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, and Spain showcased his potential. Most notably, Silva thrived at Las Palmas last season, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in La Liga.

This impressive form restored his reputation and drew attention from clubs across Europe, with Dortmund emerging as the frontrunners.

Rb Leipzig and Roma also expressed interest, but Silva made it clear his heart was set on the Bundesliga.

Wolves, aware of his contract nearing its final year, held firm for a fee close to €25 million. After negotiations, Dortmund agreed to a structured deal to meet the valuation.

Silva’s arrival bolsters Dortmund’s attacking options, following their recent signings of Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino.

He will compete with Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi for a starting role under manager Edin Terzic.

The move continues Dortmund’s trend of tapping into the Premier League market, as they aim to strengthen their squad for a competitive Bundesliga campaign.

Silva’s blend of youth, versatility, and proven goal-scoring ability during his loan stints makes him an exciting addition to Dortmund’s ambitious project.
