Real Madrid’s Mbappé, Tchouaméni named in France squad for World Cup qualifiers.

France coach Didier Deschamps has announced his squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with Real Madrid duo Kylian Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouaméni among the headline selections. 

Les Bleus are set to face Ukraine away on September 5 before hosting Iceland in Paris on September 9 as they look to secure their place at the tournament.

Mbappé’s call-up comes as no surprise, with the forward enjoying a blistering start to the season at Real Madrid. 

The 26-year-old is expected to lead France’s attack as they aim to maintain their dominance in Group D, which also features Ukraine, Iceland, and Azerbaijan. His pace, goalscoring form, and leadership continue to make him a central figure in Deschamps’ plans.

In midfield, Tchouaméni has once again been trusted to anchor the team. The 25-year-old has become a vital part of Xabi Alonso’s Madrid side and has translated that consistency to the national team.

His ability to break up play and dictate tempo will be crucial as France looks to control games and provide balance across the pitch.

The full squad named by Deschamps reflects a blend of experience and emerging talent. Among the defenders are Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté, Barcelona’s Jules Koundé, and Arsenal’s William Saliba, while Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano also returns. 

In midfield, Juventus’ Khéphren Thuram and Marseille’s Adrien Rabiot join Tchouaméni as part of a dynamic engine room.

The attacking options alongside Mbappé also highlight France’s depth. Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola represent Paris Saint-Germain, while Michael Olise of Bayern Munich and Marcus Thuram of Inter Milan bring European pedigree.

Rising stars Rayan Cherki, now at Manchester City, and Maghnes Akliouche of Monaco round out a versatile frontline.

France enters the September fixtures as favorites to top Group D, with their mix of seasoned internationals and fresh faces offering both quality and depth.

Deschamps will be hoping Mbappé’s form and Tchouaméni’s stability provide the foundation for two important results as the 2026 World Cup qualifiers intensify.
