England manager Thomas Tuchel open to making changes for Latvia match

England manager Thomas Tuchel has indicated that he is willing to make changes to his lineup for Monday’s World Cup qualifier against Latvia. This comes after Anthony Gordon was ruled out of the match due to a hip injury sustained in Friday’s 2-0 win over Albania. Tuchel described the injury as “a bit worrying” initially but played it down on Sunday, saying Gordon requires only a couple of days’ rest.

Gordon’s injury means that Levi Colwill, Marc Guehi, Morgan Rogers, and Dominic Solanke are all pushing to be involved in Monday’s game. Tuchel hinted that changes may be made to the starting lineup, saying, “No one will be dropped from a performance point of view, but if we have fresh legs available, we are not afraid to do it.”

Tuchel also admitted that England “have to do better” despite starting with a victory in his first game in charge. He cited concerns from the physical department and the need to be cautious with player selection. “Maybe it will be a mix between both,” he said, referring to the potential lineup changes.

The England manager praised the performances of debutants Myles Lewis-Skelly and Dan Burn, as well as Ezri Konsa and Curtis Jones. However, he emphasized the need for improvement, saying, “We have reasons to let all of them play again and say ‘let’s do better.'”

England’s win over Albania marked a positive start to Tuchel’s tenure, but the manager is aware that there is still much work to be done. With the Latvia match looming, Tuchel will be looking to make the necessary adjustments to ensure another three points for the Three Lions.

The Latvia match will take place at Wembley on Monday, with England looking to build on their winning start to the World Cup qualifying campaign. With Tuchel open to making changes, it remains to be seen which lineup he will select for the match.
