Atletico Madrid cruise past Slovan Bratislava with Alvarez and Griezmann on target

Atletico Madrid continued their impressive run of form with a convincing 3-1 win over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League. The victory marked the Spanish side’s 10th consecutive win in all competitions and propelled them to ninth in the League Phase standings.

Julian Alvarez was the first to find the net for Diego Simeone’s side, scoring his fourth Champions League goal of the season with a stunning curling effort from the left side of the box in the 16th minute. The strike was a testament to Alvarez’s growing confidence in front of goal, and it set the tone for a dominant performance from Atletico Madrid.

Antoine Griezmann doubled Atletico’s lead just before halftime, nodding home a lofted ball from Marcos Llorente after some tenacious work from Alvarez. The French forward added his second goal of the night in the 55th minute, scoring with a scuffed strike that bobbled over the leg of Slovan goalkeeper Dominik Takac.

Slovan Bratislava was given a glimmer of hope in the 51st minute when Clement Lenglet brought down David Strelec in the box, allowing the striker to score from the resulting penalty. However, Atletico Madrid’s lead was restored just six minutes later through Griezmann’s second goal.

Despite a spirited performance from Slovan Bratislava, Atletico Madrid’s quality ultimately told, and they ran out comfortable winners. The Slovakian side remains bottom of the table, still without a point after six matches.

The win sets Atletico Madrid up nicely for their upcoming fixtures, with the Spanish side just a point behind Bayer Leverkusen in second place. With their confidence and momentum growing, Atletico Madrid will be looking to continue their winning streak in the coming weeks.

Atletico Madrid will face Getafe in the La Liga on Sunday as they continue their quest for the La Liga title alongside rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.
