Enrique defends PSG’s Champions League performances

After conceding two goals and scoring one via an own goal in their Champions League campaign, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has defended his team, saying he’s satisfied with their performance.

Although the Paris club currently occupy the summit of the French Ligue 1 table, they have not been impressive in the UEFA Champions League. PSG are yet to score on their own this season, with an own goal conceded by Girona. They also lost 2-0 to Arsenal in their Day Two clash.

The former Spanish national team manager stated this while speaking at a press conference ahead of hosting PSV Eindhoven tonight after being asked about why his team had not been dominant in the Champions League.

PSG have faced strong criticism as they looked off the pace in Europe after putting in somewhat unconvincing performances.

Rejecting the criticism, he stated that the team played very well against Girona but didn’t play as they wanted against Arsenal.

“I’m happy with what I’ve seen from my team this season. Where you see doubt, I see potential and progress. There are things to improve that’s for sure, but I’m very optimistic,” he added.

PSG returned to winning ways over the weekend, securing their first victory in October. Les Parisiens secured a 4-2 win over RC Strasbourg Alsace at the Parc des Princes, a convincing victory that placed the club back on top of Ligue 1 after AS Monaco dropped points against Lille OSC.

It’s now left for PSG to convince their critics with a convincing performance as they welcome the Dutch giant.

Meanwhile, Lucas Hernandez is expected to be back in training before December. The defender has been out of the squad after suffering a serious injury when he ruptured his anterior ligament during the first leg of Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund in May.

According to L’Équipe, Hernandez’s lengthy absence could end. The defender is expected to be training individually before mid-November. Following the next international break (the week of November 18th), he could be integrated back into team training sessions.
