Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has praised his team’s response after disappointing defeats to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, following an outstanding performance in the 6-1 win over Alaves.
The Spanish midfielder scored once and provided two assists for Raphinha in the La Liga match at Spotify Camp Nou.
Lopez was named Man of the Match after playing a key role in Barcelona’s impressive display.
Speaking after the game, he said the team could not have chosen a better occasion to bounce back than in front of their home supporters.
The midfielder admitted that the previous week had been difficult, with Barcelona losing two demanding matches against high-level opposition.
However, he said the victory over Alaves helped the team regain confidence and show the quality and identity they wanted to maintain throughout the season.
Lopez stressed that Barcelona must build on the performance and continue playing with the same intensity.
He explained that scoring early helped the team break down Alaves’ defensive approach, as the visitors had attempted to close spaces and restrict passing options through the middle.
The 23-year-old was also pleased with his contribution to Raphinha’s two goals, emphasizing the importance of helping the team through assists.
He said manager Hansi Flick asked him to stay on the pitch a little longer despite his fatigue, explaining that Frenkie de Jong was due to be substituted.
Lopez also praised teammates Lamine Yamal and Raphinha for their influence on the team.
He described both players as important figures who regularly make the difference and said he was confident Barcelona could achieve significant success with them in the squad.
The performance against Alaves highlighted Lopez’s importance to Barcelona as they prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.
After contributing three goal involvements in the victory, the midfielder will hope to maintain his form and help the Catalan side build momentum in their pursuit of silverware.
