Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills feels Phil Jones should move out from Manchester United in search of regular game time

Former Manchester City and Leeds United defender Danny Mills feel Manchester United defender Phil Jones should leave Old Trafford in search of regular game time. Mills feel that it is bizarre how Jones is still adamant in trying to cement his place in the starting eleven in the current Manchester United side.

The 29-year-old centre back returned to the senior team after two years as he featured in the 1-0 loss against Wolves last week. While he headed towards the dressing room after the defeat, Jones had tears in his eyes as he said how it was great to be a footballer again.

Mills on the other hand wants the best for Jones and feels that he is a good enough player to get regular gametime somewhere else. He even suggested Jones to move out to a different club on loan.

“To be honest I have no idea how he’s still at the football club, I know he’s had his injury problems but surely he would want to be getting away and playing, ” Mills said in a conversation with Football Insider.

The former Leeds defender shared his emotions as he calls the situation incredible and bizarre. He has no idea why Jones has not left the club. He feels that the England international is a fabulous talent but since he has not played for some time people don’t know what to expect from him.

“I just find it bizarre and incredible that he’s still there and hasn’t wanted to leave and go and play, even if that’s a loan deal somewhere.”

”He clearly was once a fabulous player but we don’t know if he’s still a fabulous player because he hasn’t played much. He needs to play football, he’s not particularly old. Get out and play some football.”

Jones has been featuring for the Manchester United U-23 team since recovering from his knee injury which occurred two years back. He was signed by former manager Alex Ferguson from Blackburn Rovers. During his Blackburn days, he was a combative defensive midfielder. He joined the club in 2011 and since then has remained in all the highs and the lows. He has notched up 255 appearances for the Red Devils scoring twice till now. He was considered as one of the best young prospects by Ferguson but Jones saw his career get marred by persistent injury concerns which halted his development as a player.
