FIGC President Gabriele Gravina says there will be a Scudetto winner this season.
The comment is coming up with the country battling coronavirus epidemic, and there is no sign of resumption of football actions yet.
Italy’s casualty has surpassed China, where the virus first came from before wreaking havoc around the world. A huge amount of people have been killed globally, and even higher number of people have been infected.
While reiterating his resolve that the 2019-20 Serie A campaign will be completed, Gravina pointed out that the outbreak of the dreaded virus in the country makes abandonment of the league a real possibility.
Speaking with Sky Sport Italia, the Italian league boss revealed that there is a plan which the regulatory body has given a priority and they will be delighted to conclude the season on the pitch.
He further stated that the FIGC had contacted FIFA with a bid to get contract extensions to incase the league get concluded beyond June 30.
Speaking on the ways an ideal solution can be found concerning contracts, especially the ones that will expire in June, he is hoping, the football ruling body will be able to grant a month extension, which would allow contracts to finish by July 30.
While noting that the regulations must be complied with, he said the decision for the games to resume depends on orders from the highest political and scientific offices.
Speaking on how the winner of the Italian League could be decided in an event where the league is not completed, Gravina said the value of the sporting competition that took place on the field would be preserved and the final decision on where the title would go is for the Federal Council to decide.
He added that there is also a need to decide on how next season’s competition would look like, the European competitions, promotions and relegations.
