Haaland linked with La Liga giants after trouble in Spanish football paradise

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is reportedly interested in a move to Real Madrid, fueling speculation that he could become a long-term replacement for Vinicius Jr, whose future with the Spanish champions remains uncertain.

Madrid may be prepared to listen to offers of around €200 million (£176m/$230m) for the Brazilian forward if contract renewal talks fail.

Journalist Jorge Picon revealed that Haaland has a release clause in his Manchester City deal, though the exact figure is unknown.

The Norwegian forward, who extended his contract with City in 2024 until 2034, is said to be open to joining Madrid, with his representatives hinting that he “would very much like” to play for the Spanish giants.

Madrid’s interest in Haaland has been ongoing for years, and the club reportedly sees him as a key target should Vinicius decide to leave.

Vinicius’ future at the Santiago Bernabeu has grown increasingly uncertain amid strained relations with head coach Xabi Alonso.

The tension reportedly escalated after the Brazilian reacted angrily to being substituted during El Clasico against Barcelona. Although he later apologized publicly, Alonso’s name was conspicuously omitted from the message, sparking speculation of a rift.

The situation worsened when a critical article about Alonso’s leadership appeared in The Athletic, believed to have originated from Vinicius’ camp.

The fallout continued in Madrid’s next game against Valencia, when Vinicius missed a penalty meant for Kylian Mbappe, an act viewed as disrespectful by teammates and coaching staff.

Club president Florentino Perez is said to have lost patience after a series of disciplinary incidents, with sources suggesting that trust between Vinicius and the management has “completely broken down.”

This has left Madrid open to selling the winger to interested clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, who are keen to bring him to Ligue 1.

Meanwhile, Haaland has continued to impress for Manchester City, maintaining his reputation as one of the world’s most lethal strikers.

Since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, he has helped City win the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League during their treble-winning 2022-23 season.

In the current campaign, Haaland has already scored 17 goals in 13 appearances, cementing his role as the focal point of Pep Guardiola’s attack.
