Harry Kane has praised Anthony Gordon for his impressive performances with England, saying the winger’s move to Barcelona has given him greater confidence and helped transform him into a key player for the national team.
Gordon was on target as England defeated Czechia 2-0 in Prague on Tuesday, heading in a precise cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold shortly after half-time.
The goal extended his scoring run to three consecutive international appearances after he also impressed in England’s 3-2 defeat by Spain.
Kane then sealed the victory with England’s second goal, but the Bayern Munich striker reserved special praise for Gordon’s performance.
He said playing for a major club such as Barcelona can give players the confidence to feel they belong at the highest level.
“I think sometimes going to a big club like that gives you more self-belief, more confidence. You feel like you belong on the biggest stage and I think he’s taken that into his England performances.” He said.
The England captain also highlighted Gordon’s direct approach and ability to make a difference in the final third.
Kane praised the winger’s finish against Czechia. Also, he commended Alexander-Arnold for his delivery and defensive contribution after the Real Madrid defender returned to the England team following a lengthy absence.
Gordon’s strong international form has come after his €70 million move from Newcastle United to Barcelona during the summer.
The winger previously said he wanted to develop his game beyond his reputation for pace, and his recent displays for England have shown his growing influence.
England will continue their Nations League campaign away to Croatia on Saturday before hosting Czechia at Wembley next Tuesday.
Gordon and Alexander-Arnold will hope their successful combination in Prague earns them further opportunities as Thomas Tuchel prepares for the next two fixtures.
