Heated London derby between Tottenham and Chelsea ends in a 2-2 draw

After an exciting opener to the Premier League last weekend, week 2 of the 2022/2023 Premier League season provided even more drama across the games played on Saturday and Sunday.

However, the pick of the games was the London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.

It was a game that saw both rivals go head-to-head once again with a familiar foe in the dugout for Spurs as Antonio Conte returned to his former stomping ground, where he was the manager for the Blues.

Both sides went into the game level on points after getting victories in their opening day fixtures. Tottenham Hotspur secured a 4-2 victory over Southampton at the White Hart Lane while Chelsea scooped a 1-0 win away at Goodison Park.

However, neither side could get the winner on Sunday evening as they played out a 2-2 draw in an entertaining fixture.

Chelsea took the lead in the first half as summer signing, and Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly scored a stunning strike to open his Premier League account in the first half.

The hosts were pegged back by Tottenham through Pierre Emile Højbjerg in the 68th minute before the Blues got what initially looked like the match winner from Reece James.

However, England striker Harry Kane was on hand to head home a late equalizer at the end of the game from a corner kick.

The drama didn’t end there as both managers Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte needed to be separated at the final whistle.

“There are no hard feelings [with Conte] – I feel like it was a fair tackle from him and a fair tackle from me. We did not insult each other, we did not hit each other, we were fighting for our teams, and from my side, there is absolutely no hard feelings. I’m surprised that we both got a red card for that.” Tuchel said after the game.
