Denzel Dumfries and Marcus Thuram are out of international games for their respective countries due to injuries.
Dumfries is the latest Nerrazurri player to drop out of the Netherlands squad and return to his club for assessment. The wing-back will, therefore, be unavailable from the Netherlands international squad for the upcoming March international break.
This was confirmed by the Dutch federation. According to the federation, he dropped out of the March international squad due to an unspecified injury and has been replaced by Mats Wieffer of Brighton and Youri Baas of Ajax.
The Netherlands will play against Spain over two legs of the Nations League quarter-finals this week.
Concerning Thuram, the French federation confirmed that the Inter’s leading goalscorer will also return to Milano for further assessments with club doctors.
The 27-year-old had reported to Clairefontaine as usual for preparation work with France but had been suffering from ankle pain. After an assessment with national team doctor Franck Le Gall, he has been allowed to return to his domestic club.
He is, therefore, out of France’s upcoming Nations League quarter-final against Croatia later this week.
Ahead of their return after their international break, Simone Inzaghi has given those not on international duty an extended break following the statement 2-0 win away against Atalanta in a major clash for the Serie A title on Sunday.
The remaining Nerazzurri players will then train on Wednesday, which is when Dumfries will likely be taken in for further assessment of his injury.
Dumfries’s condition is expected to be monitored on a day-by-day basis by the Nerazzurri as he is considered one of their important players.
This is an additional blow to Inter that are already without another wing-back, Federico Dimarco in recent weeks.
Also on the treatment table include January recruit Nicola Zalewski wing-back Matteo Darmian, while Carlos Augusto has only just returned.
