Italian club Inter Milan have appointed Simone Inzaghi as their new manager who has been head coach of Lazio for the past five years. The Italian has inked a two-year deal with Inter, the one that will put him in charge and will replace former coach Antonio Conte.
Inzaghi’s arrival at the San Siro is surely a welcome move as Simone has enjoyed a successful five year period as Lazio boss. He brought Lazio back into the Champions League group stages for the first time since the 2007/08 season.
Apart from being associated with Lazio’s first team since 2016, the 45-year-old Italian had also coached a number of Lazio’s youth sides earlier in his coaching career.
As senior manager for Lazio, Simone Inzaghi has made Lazio qualify for European competition in each of his five full seasons in charge. With taking his former club to Champions League last 16 in the 2020/21 campaign being his best performance in terms of the tournament.
Inzaghi has also played for Lazio as well as the National team of Italy. He has also led the club to a Coppa Italia title in 2019, as well as two Italian Super Cup successes during his five year tenure.
The Serie A champions, apart from getting a new head coach have also got additional good news as Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has decided to stay at the club, even after the departure of Antonio Conte.
Although Inter had desired to raise funds this summer, Lukaku told Belgian broadcaster VTN on Wednesday: “Yes, I am staying”.
“I’ve already had contact with the man who normally becomes our new manager [Inzaghi]. Maybe I shouldn’t say that yet… but it was a very positive conversation”, added Belgian striker.
With Conte, Inter managed to win Serie A after a gap of nine years. So clearly Inzaghi knows the stakes are high as they can be. But being already welcomed by Lukaku as well as his own success at Lazio, he can surely take up the job in the best possible way.
