It is incredible – Carlos Alcaraz after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas to win Barcelona Open

Carlos Alcaraz continued to impress as he bested Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 6-4 in the final to lift Barcelona Open on Sunday. The home favorite was at his lethal best against the Greek and got the job done to win his ninth tour-level title.

In fact, Tsitsipas took an early lead of 2-1 in the opening set when Alcaraz smashed his backhand into the net. However, the young Spaniard made a resounding comeback as he won five out of the next six games to take the opening set.

Alcaraz once again impressed on Pista Rafa Nadal with his ball striking, drop shots and accuracy.

After wrapping up the final in 79 minutes, Alcaraz was delighted to win the title in front of the home crowd.

“It is incredible,” Alcaraz said. “To feel this energy and lift the trophy in Barcelona in front of my family and friends, and most members of my team are here as well. Playing this level and to lift the trophy in front of them is a good feeling for me.”

The teenager revealed that staying relaxed during crucial stages of the match was important for him to get the desired result.

“Me and my team were talking before the match about staying relaxed,” said Alcaraz. “To want to play the tough moments. Staying relaxed is the most important part for me. To forget the mistakes, and everything and be myself on the court. Not to think about all the people watching, but just me, the court, the racquet, and the final.”

This is the third tour-level title for Alcaraz after Buenos Aires, Indian Wells. Alcaraz will now take part in the Madrid Open and he will play his opening round match on 28th April.
