Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac delivered an optimistic squad update during Thursday’s pre-match press conference, confirming that most players are available for Friday’s Bundesliga encounter against Augsburg at the WWK-Arena
The Croatian tactician revealed that Algerian full-back Ramy Bensebaini has fully recovered from the back issues that forced him to miss Tuesday’s DFB-Pokal victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. “Ramy trained today, and I think everything’s fine with regard to him,
” Kovac stated. “He can travel with us tomorrow and play tomorrow evening.” The 29-year-old’s return bolsters Dortmund’s defensive options as they aim to maintain momentum in the league.
Less positive news surrounds central defender Niklas Süle, who remains a doubt for the trip to Bavaria. Kovac identified the German international—affectionately nicknamed ‘Niki’—as the squad’s sole concern.
The manager added that the only player having issues is Süle. as he’s got a swollen toe, with everyone else doing fine.
Kovac also highlighted encouraging progress from midfield stalwart Emre Can and promising youngster Julien Duranville, both of whom are stepping up their recovery programs.
“Emre Can and Julien Duranville are also making progress. Everyone else is fully involved,” he added, underscoring the depth of his injury-free roster.
The Black and Yellows head into the fixture buoyed by their midweek cup success and will be keen to close the gap on the Bundesliga’s upper echelons.
Süle’s potential absence could see veteran Mats Hummels or Nico Schlotterbeck deputize at the heart of defense.
Dortmund fatefuls will hope Bensebaini’s availability and the overall clean bill of health propel the team to three points against a resilient Augsburg side known for their defensive organization under coach Jess Thorup.
