Kylian Mbappe is harboring hopes of playing in the upcoming Paris Olympics amid Real Madrid talks. Mbappe will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the ongoing season as a free agent and as per the reports, Real Madrid is the front-runner to sign him up.
France’s under-23 coach Thierry Henry recently said that Real Madrid has turned down a request to release players for the Olympic Games. Thus, if Mbappe’s deal with Los Blancos is confirmed, it could keep him away from representing France at the Games.
“I have always had the same ambition. I have always said that I wanted to go [to the Olympics] but it doesn’t depend on me,” Mbappe said in a news conference ahead of France’s friendly with Germany on Saturday.
“I can’t say anything because no one has told me anything. If I can’t do the Olympics so be it … When I say no one has told me anything, I am talking about PSG. I am under contract with PSG and they haven’t said anything [about the Olympics]. We haven’t discussed it,” he added.
The talisman refused to discuss his club’s future but he is optimistic of a solution before the Euros.
“I haven’t announced anything yet because I have nothing to announce … I am sorry I have nothing to tell you,” he said, before adding later: “I think it will all be sorted out before the Euros.”
Meanwhile, Mbappe has been in sensational form in the ongoing season with 24 goals and five assists in 24 matches for PSG in Ligue 1. Furthermore, he has scored six goals in eight matches of the UEFA Champions League and has scored seven goals in four games of the French Cup.
Mbappe had scored 29 goals in 34 matches in the previous season of Ligue 1 and played a key role in taking PSG to glory.
