Lagerbielke’s Celtic comeback: Hoops eye Yamada and more signings

Gustaf Lagerbielke has rejoined Celtic on loan, aiming to secure a permanent move as the club anticipates further signings.

The 25-year-old Swedish defender, who struggled for game time at Parkhead last season under Brendan Rodgers, enjoyed a successful stint at FC Twente in the Eredivisie, featuring in 32 matches and completing 90 minutes in over half.

Despite initial expectations to bolster Celtic’s center-back options, Lagerbielke found opportunities scarce.

A permanent transfer to FC Twente fell through due to valuation disagreements, but interest from various European clubs is growing, according to reports. With new representation known for facilitating Celtic exits, Lagerbielke’s departure seems imminent.

Celtic are actively seeking at least one new center-half to partner Cameron Carter-Vickers long-term. While Liam Scales and Auston Trusty compete for a spot, with Scales currently favored, the club believes improvements are possible.

Beyond defensive reinforcements, Celtic are exploring the Far East market, with Kawasaki Frontale’s Shin Yamada emerging as a target.

The 25-year-old center-forward, valued at £1.5m, developed through Kamoe FC, Suisho SC, and Kawasaki Frontale’s academy before starring at Toin University of Yokohama from 2019 to 2022.

Returning to Frontale in 2023, Yamada has scored 32 goals and provided nine assists in 119 appearances, securing a regular first-team role across all competitions. Celtic are now deliberating whether to invest in the striker this summer.

As the transfer window progresses, Celtic fans can expect more movement, with the club focused on strengthening key positions to maintain their competitive edge.

Lagerbielke’s loan return and potential permanent exit, alongside pursuits like Yamada, signal an active period for the Hoops as they aim to build a robust squad for the upcoming season.
