Teenage forward Lamine Yamal has issued a defiant message to Atletico Madrid after FC Barcelona suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash at Camp Nou.
The 18-year-old was visibly emotional at full-time as Diego Simeone’s side secured a crucial advantage on the road.
Despite the disappointment, Yamal quickly moved to rally supporters, insisting the tie remains alive ahead of the return leg.
Taking to social media, the Barcelona winger shared a message of unity and belief, urging fans to continue backing the team as they chase a place in the semi-finals.
“This isn’t over, culers, We’ll give everything in the return. All together, always.” Yamal said.
The result marked a historic breakthrough for Diego Simeone, who finally recorded his first away victory at Barcelona after 19 attempts.
The win puts Atletico firmly in control of the tie, with the Spanish side now favourites to progress to the last four of Europe’s elite competition.
Barcelona, now managed by Hansi Flick, face a daunting challenge in the second leg.
Atletico boast a formidable home record in Champions League knockout matches, making the task even tougher for the Catalan club as they look to overturn the deficit.
There was, however, a positive note for Barcelona as Gavi made a significant return from injury.
The midfielder featured for the entire second half, marking his longest appearance since being sidelined for seven months, and provided energy and intensity in midfield.
Injury concerns continue to mount for Barcelona ahead of the decisive second leg.
Frenkie de Jong remains unavailable, while Pedri is a doubt after being substituted at half-time. Barcelona will play Espanyol this Saturday in the La Liga before Tuesday’s return leg.
With limited options, Flick may be forced to reshuffle his midfield as Barcelona prepare for both their domestic fixtures and a crucial European showdown.
