Premier League club Leeds United on Monday announced that they’ve sacked Jesse Marsch as the club’s manager after going seven Premier League games without a victory.
Leeds United were beaten 1-0 at the City Ground by Nottingham Forest on Sunday, and it was their second loss in 2023 in the Premier League after January’s 2-1 loss at Villa Park against Aston Villa.
However, their last Premier League victory came in November in a 4-3 win over Bournemouth, a trend that has seen them just goals difference and a spot away from the relegation zone.
Leeds United released a statement on Monday to announce Marsch’s sacking and also revealed that the process of hiring a new manager is already on.
“Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties. Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season. Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack, and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club. We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.” The statement read on the club’s website.
The Whites are currently in 17th position with 18 points from twenty games, although they have played a game less than Everton, Bournemouth, and Southampton, who are sitting in 18th to 20 positions, respectively.
Their next game will be against Manchester United in a double fixture, with the first one happening on Wednesday at Old Trafford before hosting the Red Devils at home at Elland Road next weekend.
Meanwhile, Jesse Marsch’s replacement may be current West Brom United manager and Spaniard Carlos Corberan. Corberan was previously with Leeds United as an assistant coach to former coach Marcelo Bielsa when he was at Elland Road.
He has since gone on to lead Huddersfield Town to Championship playoffs before joining West Brom.
