LOSC Lille are planning to extend the contract of their striker, David Jonathan, as he enters the final six months of his current deal, while captain Benjamin André hopes to break more records of appearance in the French top flight.
This means that Canada International, starting on January 1, 2025, is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with another club. This allows him to weigh his options, having been linked with top clubs.
The Canadian international has been on the radar of top clubs and linked with big-money moves away from Lille OSC in the past three summers.
Although a transfer never happened, his contract is up at the end of the season, which could ultimately leave on a free, a situation that LOSC would like to avoid.
Having repeatedly ruled out selling the Canada international in January, Lille had insisted that he would see out the season with with them.
Les Dogue seems to be hand-tight as it looks increasingly likely that David’s future lies elsewhere.
RMC Sport reported that Olivier Létang and the hierarchy at Lille are still trying to ensure that Canada International extends his current deal.
However, the present situation shows that the club’s hopes of doing so are dwindling. As things stand, David has little chance of extending his current contract as he has been a free agent in the summer; therefore, it looks highly likely.
While Jonathan might consider running down his contract at the club, the captain, Benjamin André, hopes to stay there longer.
The 34-year-old is reaching the twilight years of his career, but his performances on the pitch for Les Dogues have impressed with a rejuvenated vigor since Bruno Génésio joined the club.
He had turned down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia in the summer and has instead recorded over matches in the top flight of French football.
“I hope I’ll have plenty more to play. As long as the body keeps up, we’ll hang in there,” André reacted after finding out.
