Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders believes that Trent Alexander-Arnold can be the future Reds captain

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders feels that Trent Alexander-Arnold can be a future captain for the club. Lijnders feels that Alexander-Arnold has grown in stature as a player and can be the leader the club wants him to be.

The young fullback has been Liverpool’s standout performer over the last few years. He is already one of the most talented right-backs in the World right now. His growth has been exceptional ever since making his senior debut in 2016. Alexander-Arnold was among the most pivotal players who guided Liverpool to their recent success of winning the Champions League and later clinching the historic Premier League.

“I’m so proud of Trent. He was this natural technical talent when he was just 15 years old,” Klopp’s assistant coach told the club’s official website.

“He had all the characteristics I loved: a mentality to win, passionate to improve but his emotions sometimes took control instead of him taking control over the emotions. He trained with so much power and competition.

“He grew step by step into the wonderful guy he is now, surrounded by a lovely family, he created this superb personality. He has this aggression in a positive way.

“If someone represents this quote of Bill Shankly it’s him: ‘playing at the highest level isn’t pressure, it’s a reward’.

“I still see the same fire in his eyes in each training, but I don’t see this young guy anymore; I see a leader, I see someone who controls his emotions, a future captain. A leader by example.

“The best clubs have one thing in common, a ‘one club’ mentality. The culture spreads through all departments. It’s great that our talents, the real ones, can make these steps together with our team.”

Currently, Jordan Henderson is the Liverpool club captain and the English midfielder’s current contract runs till 2023. So Alexander-Arnold can only try for Liverpool captaincy after that. He is among several candidates at the club.

The youngster however is aiming to return to full fitness after he suffered a calf injury which did not let him feature for the Three Lions. Alexander-Arnold is looking to get back to his previous form and guide the Reds to another fantastic season.
