Liverpool midfielder James Milner backs Darwin Nunez to flourish at Anfield after early blemishes in preseason

Whenever a big signing happens in any league people start wondering if the deal will go through nicely or not. If the player will be able to flourish under new circumstances, in a new country, etc. The same thing happened when Darwin Nunez was signed by Liverpool from SL Benfica as Jurgen Klopp wanted someone who can score goals and anchor the attack especially after Sadio Mane’s departure.

However there were doubts over his abilities as some people compared his looks with Andy Caroll. But he came up with a quick answer when he scored a sensational hattrick against Leipzig in preseason. Since then the doubters have toned down but if Nunez fails to rise to the challenge in the Premier League they will once again come out saying random things about him.

For now the youngster has already scored a goal in their curtain raiser against Fulham. Although the Reds could only manage a 2-2 draw, Nunez scored a brilliant flick to announce his arrival in the Premier League. But he did not stop there, the equalizer that Mohamed Salah scored was also assisted by Nunez who calmly tucked it to the Egyptian and he pushed it towards the open goal to at least secure a point from the opening fixture.

Looking at the preseason, Community Shield and the first game in the Premier League, Liverpool midfielder James Milner is very much certain that Nunez will be a big star for Liverpool in the coming days. He has backed the young forward to do well as he highlighted how can the ability to make great runs and is also a great finisher. He recently spoke to the official website regarding the young forward. He said, “I think he’ll have an impact the whole time he’s here, to be honest. Since he’s been here, he’s [been] impressive on the field, worked hard, makes great runs [and] is desperate to put his head on the ball in the box.

Milner believes that Nunez is a great talent and has great abilities to finish chances. Milener is very excited to see so many great attacking talent but feels that the Uruguayan is different to anything that they have had in the last few years. “If you put a ball in there, he’ll do everything he can to get on the end of it – good finisher, both feet and he’s different to the other boys up there. We’ve already got some very exciting attacking players who can cause problems, so he’s a great addition. He’ll be fantastic for us,” Milner added.

With Erling Haaland also joining Manchester City and scoring a brace in his Premier League debut, it will be an interesting battle between the two young strikers challenging for the golden boot. So a very exciting season is set to unfold and a lot will depend on Nunez to ensure that  Liverpool manages to challenge with the Citizens this season.
