Liverpool have confirmed the signing of French striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal reportedly worth £69 million ($93.65 million), plus add-ons. The 23-year-old becomes the club’s second-most expensive signing this summer, following the earlier arrival of German midfielder Florian Wirtz for a record-breaking £100 million.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, marks another bold statement from the reigning Premier League champions as they gear up to defend their title in the upcoming season. Ekitike completed his medical and agreed personal terms before flying out to join his new teammates on their pre-season tour in Hong Kong later this week.
Ekitike arrives at Anfield following a breakout 2024–25 campaign in the Bundesliga, where he scored 15 goals in 33 appearances for Frankfurt. His performances were instrumental in the German side’s run to the Europa League quarterfinals, where he added four more goals to his tally.
“It’s a strong story for him and Eintracht Frankfurt that he’s moving to one of Europe’s top teams with the greatest ambitions and opportunities,” said Frankfurt Sporting Director Markus Kroesche. “Hugo has earned this move, and it shows that we are capable of offering players a great prospect.”
A product of Stade de Reims, Ekitike made his professional debut in France before joining Paris Saint-Germain on loan in 2022. Though he featured in 25 Ligue 1 matches during PSG’s title-winning campaign, his development accelerated after a switch to Frankfurt in 2023. Initially joining the German club on loan, he made the move permanent the following year.
Ekitike’s arrival adds further firepower to a Liverpool front line that has already seen reinforcements this summer. With the club aiming to compete on multiple fronts, including defending their league title, his versatility and eye for goal will be key assets for new manager Arne Slot.
The Frenchman’s signing also signals Liverpool’s intent to evolve and invest in youth with proven top-flight experience. As the Reds prepare to open their 2025–26 campaign at home against Bournemouth on August 15, Ekitike will be looking to hit the ground running in what promises to be another high-stakes season for the Merseyside giants.
