Spain men’s football head coach Luis de la Fuente has extended his contract with the national team until 2032, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Monday.

The new agreement is set to give the 65-year-old the longest tenure ever held by a Spain head coach and comes after a highly successful period in charge of the national side.

De la Fuente stepped into the senior role after Luis Enrique following Spain’s exit from the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Since taking over, he has overseen a remarkable run of success, guiding the country to three major international trophies.

Spain first won the UEFA Nations League 2022-23 under De la Fuente before adding the Euro 2024 title. He then led the national team to the FIFA World Cup 2026 crown, further strengthening his record as Spain coach.

His contract extension means De la Fuente is expected to remain at the helm for three more major international tournaments. He is set to guide Spain at the 2028 European Championship before taking charge at the 2030 FIFA World Cup and the 2032 European Championship.

The long-term deal also underlines the Spanish federation’s confidence in a coach who has spent 14 years within its setup.

Rafael Louzan, chair of the RFEF’s board of directors, described De la Fuente as the most successful coach in the history of the Spanish national team and said his lengthy association with the federation warranted the new agreement.

“We’re talking about the most successful head coach in the history of the national team, and after fourteen years with us, this is something Luis de la Fuente deserves, a long-term future at the RFEF,” Louzan said.

The extension provides Spain with continuity on the touchline as the national team looks towards another busy cycle of major competitions.

Having already delivered success in the Nations League, European Championship and World Cup, De la Fuente will now have the opportunity to oversee Spain through the remainder of the decade and into the early years of the next one.
