Manchester City Drop Points in Premier League Race with Draw Against Crystal Palace on Monday

Liverpool now sit just four points back with a game in hand as Manchester City dropped points in their goalless draw vs Crystal Palace. Liverpool’s ext matchup is set for next week against Arsenal mid-week on 16 March.

The Reds dominated the first half — both possession-wise and style of attack — but Palace defended well with the back line holding on as long as possible.

“It was the right place at the right time to develop myself and understand what I really wanted next,” Vieira said earlier this week. “That ultimately proved to be coaching, a world Vieira adapted to far better than many equally-gifted former players.  Vieira managed City’s Elite Development squad before going on to impress at New York City FC and some believed he showed the hallmarks of a future City manager.”

City absolutely dominated possession 64-26, but finished with just four shots on goal overall compared to one for Palace. Palace — with the point — sit in 11th place, just a point behind Southampton at No. 10.

“We played a really really good game,” City manager Pep Guardiola said with no out-ward regrets with the way his club played against Crystal Palace.

“We didn’t score, that was the mistake,” Guardiola said. “The team that was there today was there before and will be there in the next game. I am very pleased with the performance and the way we played.”

Leicester City in No. 12 does have a few games in hand, though.

“We want to make the end of the season really exciting,” Vieira responded when asked to comment the job he has done as Palace’s boss thus far.

Despite the final results, it was Palace’s Conor Gallagher who received a ton of praise for his activity, and ability to hold possession.

“Conor is full of energy, we wanted to use his energy and positiveness,” Vieira said.

Vieira has managed a clean-sheet against Manchester City twice now. 1 win, 1 draw, and 0 goals conceded. Four points and a clean sheet as Vieira is the second Premier League side to hold Manchester City with no goals conceded.

“You need a little bit of luck as well,” Vieira made said to note. “You need as well to perform well and we did it.”

With the upcoming Newcastle-Palace match postponed, the Eagles should be back in action in the FA Cup quarter finals against Everton.

City, too have a league action postponed mid-week against Brighton, should be back in action against Southampton in the FA Cup quarters.

“We didn’t need to draw here to know it,” Guardiola responded asked about the difficulty in winning Premier League games at this stage of the season.
