Manchester United have stopped some journalists from attending their re-match conference starting with Tuesday’s Presser ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Chelsea in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have courted media attention this season, especially with some reports focusing on players’ performances and manager Erik Ten Hag.
Manchester United claim that these reporters have been publishing negative stories about the club without seeking the club’s opinion, allowing the club to challenge these reports or even contextualize them.
However, the club has now taken action against Journalists from Sky, ESPN, Manchester Evening News, and the Mirror. Reporters from these organizations were excluded from Tuesday’s press conference.
Manchester United said in a statement that they are taking action against a number of news organizations, not for publishing stories the club doesn’t like, but for doing so without contacting them before publishing.
The club claimed that these organizations published a story claiming that Manchester United players were not happy with manager Erik Ten Hag. The Dutchman aired his displeasure about the conduct of the journalists and news media but also supported the views of the club that they should be contacted first before any stories were published by any media organization.
“They should have come to us first and not go around our back printing articles – that is not the right thing. If the players have a different opinion, of course, I will listen, but they haven’t told me, or maybe one or two [players], but the majority want to play like this – proactive, dynamic, brave.” Ten Hag said.
Seventh-placed Manchester United will hope to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the weekend in the Premier League by beating Chelsea when they face the Blues at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
The Blues have been improving in their recent forms, and they managed to secure a 3-2 victory over Brighton at Stamford Bridge over the weekend.
